The Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS) is seeking experienced professionals to join their valued team of Higher Specialist Scientist (HSS) Equivalence Assessors. This is an opportunity to play a vital role in ensuring the quality and integrity of the Equivalence process, supporting healthcare scientists on their journey to registration.

About the Role
HSS Equivalence applications are reviewed by a panel consisting of two professional assessors – one clinical and one specialist – along with a lay assessor. Assessments typically take between one and two hours and are carried out against the AHCS’ Standards of Good Scientific Practice, with reference to the outcomes of the Higher Specialist Scientist Training Programme (HSST) accredited by the National School for Healthcare Science.

They are currently seeking assessors who:

  • Are on the HSS register

  • Belong to an appropriate specialism

  • Are in good standing with their regulator and professional body

  • Are currently working at an appropriate senior level

Support and Reimbursement
While assessor roles are unpaid, the Academy reimburses all reasonable expenses in line with their policy. Assessors receive one-to-one training via video call before their first assessment, with ongoing refresher training provided.

Becoming an Assessor
To apply, the process is simple:

  1. Submit your CV.

  2. Your professional body or AHCS Professional Group Lead will be contacted to endorse your appointment.

  3. Once confirmed, you’ll be asked to sign the AHCS Code of Conduct and Contract.

  4. Complete the initial assessor training.

You may be invited to assess as either a clinical or specialist assessor. While we are particularly looking for HSS Equivalence assessors at this time, there are also opportunities to support equivalence processes at STP and PTP levels.

Our assessors are at the heart of maintaining professional standards and we are incredibly grateful for their ongoing contribution.

If you are passionate about supporting excellence in healthcare science, please consider becoming an HSS Equivalence assessor.
