The dawn of the ‘Self-referral’… are you prepared for this new landscape?

In December 2022, NHS England published a document outlining their priorities and operational plans for 2023/2024.  There is one national objective which is almost certainly going to heavily impact Audiology Services directly, which is for Community Health Services to expand direct access and self-referral (where GP involvement is not clinically necessary).

More specifically, in just a few months time (by September 2023) systems are asked to put in place self-referral routes to several services – including Audiology and hearing aid provision.

This impact will further increase footfall and the need for robust wax management, so we have asked Dr. Stephen Griffiths to share his expertise after setting up a self-referral system in the Isle of Man.
